PLTL is an active learning program incorporated into several courses within the department of Biological Sciences at Florida International University and within a variety of different disciplines and universities across the world. Each week, students in a course offering PLTL meet with a PLTL Peer Leader in small teams (6-12 students) performing tasks in a workshop format. A PLTL Peer Leader is a peer who has successfully completed the course and are trained to facilitate workshop for the course. The Peer Leader’s role is to guide current students through workshop content each week as a team. Students are responsible for bringing their textbook/notes from class to the session to help them answer questions poised in the workshop. Further policies can be found on the PLTL syllabus.

Enrollment

Once a PLTL course is open for enrollment, select the "View Courses" button. In order to ensure fair and functional enrollment, you may be directed through a queue before being prompted to log in and then select your desired PLTL workshop. The queue will inform you of your place in line and advance you into the enrollment process automatically. Please do not close your browser window or refresh the page as you may lose your spot in the queue.
Once in, please filter for your subject by selecting the dropdown menu under "Category" and clicking "Search". This is how you avoid enrolling into the wrong PLTL subject. Please note, if you see sections on the list with a red line crossed through the "Enroll Now" button, this means you must drop your current section in order to re-enroll into another section.

Secondary Enrollment

If you are taking an additional subject(s) that offers PLTL, you will not be able to enroll in an additional section of PLTL through this enrollment page. Once enrollment for your PLTL course opens, please contact the PLTL Office at PLTL@fiu.edu. with the Subject Line: PLTL Secondary Enrollment Request
In the body of the email, please state: Your full name, your 7-digit Panther ID (found on your FIU OneCard), the subject you wish to enroll in a PLTL section for, and at least three (3) section times of the subject you want to be enrolled in.
If the section has not reached full capacity, you will be enrolled into that section and you will receive a confirmation email within twenty-four hours of your request. If none of the sections you requested have available space, you will be contacted to select alternative sections.

Drop

You have the ability to drop yourself on this registration portal. Select the "View Courses" button and press the red "DROP" button located to the right at the top blue banner above the list of sections, beneath your name. Once dropped, you will have the opportunity to enroll into another section, as long as there are still seats available. Once a section is full, we DO NOT do overrides.
Sections on the list with a red line crossed through the "Enroll Now" button does not mean the section is closed, it means you must drop your current section in order to re-enroll into another section.

Confirmation

Please check your FIU e-mail for enrollment confirmation and (This link opens in new tab) login to Canvas to access your PLTL course. The schedule of available sections is subject to change depending on the availability of Peer Leaders and university space. Make sure you are referencing the correct course.
